spshit5web

The saga continues.. Volume number five in our SP Shit series which we are proud to say have become cult-classics among SP heads and beatheads worldwide. We’re still the same three dudes; Fredfades, Deckdaddy & John Rice.. All the beats are still done on the SP, without any s950 or other MIDI’ed up machine. All beats are still sample based, but a couple (two or three) of them also have some keyboards on top. Only one exclusive track this time, by the homie Ivan Average (formerly known as Ivy League.. The dude that made The Brains EP that we produced, and also rapped on one of our tracks from the Plastic Strip LP). We have some remixes there thou, so there will be some rapping for your ass. Actually, it’s 5 remixes, so with Ivan’s track, that would be six rap joints. And we have 41 instro’s (hi beatheads), which means that all in all, we have 47 tracks. Some beats was done solo, some was collabed by two and two, and one of em was made by all of us. For the downloaders / non-supporters.. We give you a lofi mp3 file that doesn’t sound as good as the CD’s plus it’s one long file, so you don’t get it splitted in tracks.. For the people who wanna support and buy the CD.. You know you’ll get the hi-res version, splitted in seperate tracks plus some dope artwork. Will post info on how to order hardcopies on my page / blog when I got them ready to ship out. Shoutout to all the dudes who bought volume four! Sold a lot of those.. Anyway.. The artwork is kinda crazy this time. I wanted to do some 60’s psych looking shit, and at the same time I just wanted to rep Norway real hard, that’s why we went with the moose thing hahaha.. Mashed together with my dusty cosmic shit plus a wierd composition. DIG IT.

FREDFADES VS. STREET SMARTZ – PROBLEMZ REMIX

Bilde tatt 20.07.2010 kl. 12.51

Aight, as you can see. Im having my breakfast here. Just figured out that I actually have a blog I barely use anymore.. Wanna start posting pictures, mixes & remixes here again! Made a remix yesterday and thought it would be dope to put it on the page.. The remix is from a Street Smartz 12″.. The tracks on the twelve is “Problemz” and “Metal Thangz feat. OC & Pharoahe Monch” . Solid ass 12″, both tracks have dirty clean inst acap… “Problemz” is my favourite from the 12″ and was originally produced by Buckwild of the legendary D.I.T.C. Crew. One of my favourite beats ever. Props to Buckwild! Check out the lyrics here to, amazing, honest, rowdy shit. Dig it! I don’t think dudes ever got laid once after this track was released. Hah. The b-side is produced by OGEE.. I might have to remix that joint later on aswell. The twelve was released in 1996 on Tru Criminal Records.. The beat I did is horns & bassline from the same song. Hi filtered horns & lowpassed guitars, layered on top of each other. Rare european proggy jazzfunk record. One of my favourite records ever. Found it here in Oslo for 20 NOK.  I will give a free hardcopy of my latest mixtape + a free Oslo SP Ensemble vinyl to any dude who can guess what the sample is.. I did the keys in the hook aswell… Nord lead.. I also did backup raps through the whole track myself and did a new layer of myself rapping the hook. Filtered and tremoloed so my hi pitch voice dont stick out too much.. Hah! I also added a bonus beat at the end.. Same MPC program.. Same drums, different sample + a new bassline. Webster Lewis rhodes chords, chopped & pitched down.

I’ve been meaning to post two new mixes here, but I gotta do some cover art for one of them first.. I will post the other one before I leave to US on vacation. I swear.

Ayeah, here´s the remix:

OSLO SP ENSEMBLE on PROD. IN NORWAY #2 LP (finally out!!).

May 31st, 2010 Posted in Beats, Exclusive, Fredfades, Hiphop, News, SP1200 | No Comments »

pin2blog

There we go, the vinyl is finally out!!! You can get it digital, and you can get it on iTunes. Whatever that fits you! I also got vinyls for sale.. Anyways, here’s the description of the tracks I’ve been giving earlier:

Oslo SP Ensemble’s featured part on Plastic Strip’s “Produced In Norway Vol. 2″ compilation. Last year they put out volume one which had J. Ramm, Kolon (Intact & FLG), Nutsons & Clark Flavour on it. This time it has Oslo SP Ensemble, Emile The Duke, Bazis (Hei Baktus) & Necessary on it. The whole concept on these compilations is 4 featured artists/groups with one side each. A, B, C, D. I’m happy that our part ended up to be the A-side.

Here’s a little something, something about the music on our side:

Our side is 11 tracks long, which means that it is more variated than the other sides. We only have two tracks with vocals on them, from our homeboys Dreamon & Ivy League. The rest is instro’s for all fellow beatnerds out there. The set kicks off with a beat called NY Express, made on the SP late 2009 out of a turkish prog rock record, tight drums, steady percussion and a bassline. Right after that beat there’s also a 10-15 second long beat not featured in the tracklist, so there’s actually 12 beats on our side I just figured out. Track number two is a track from our good friend Dreamon, one of the youngest and dopest rappers to come outta Norway. The track is about his view on the current rap scene in Norway. The beat was made on the SP during the autumn of 2009. Right after his track, “Egbalude” drops in, which was actually produced on the same day as Dreamon/Anthony’s track. It’s a nice short beat, made out of a scandinavian fusion record, with a drumbreak we made out of open drum hits taken from different parts off a psych rock track that does’nt even have a drumbreak or drum solo!!! We also added some live percussion and a bassline to it to make it more dynamic. Next up is “Look In The Sky”, which is our favourite rockstar joint, haha. Psych / pop-psych collectors might recognize the samples for this one. It’s kinda hard thou, cause we sampled a guitar solo off a rock tune and splitted the L/R sides and picked out the side that ONLY had the reverb for the solo, so the guitars are’nt really coming through, but you can hear them in the background. We played loads of stuff on this one by ourselves, including the organ, percussion, drums and the bassline. Only stuff sampled is the guitars. So, after the rockstar joint we have a nice and mellow track called “You Know, You Know”, made on the SP, in the spring/summer of 2009. This beat has the dopest bass pattern on the whole record, no doubt. The snare is hard as hell too. Track number six is “Brooklyn (You Showed Me)” from 2008, made on the MPC2000XL. If you ever figure out what the sample for this one is, PLEASE call me, and I’ll hook you up with some free vinyls & mix CDs. The beat was originally used on Dreamon/Anthony’s free online album from 2008 or 2009 (can’t remember). Only thing we did before we put it on the set was to add a synthesizer solo after the 2nd hook. Me and Deckdaddy is playing each our solo on top of each others. Sounds funny, in a good way thou. After this instro, we have a newer MPC beat with Ivy League on top of it.. This one was done early December, 2009. The bassguitars is from a library record I bought out of Jester’s trunk around October 2009. All drums & synthesizers we played ourselves.. And of course that’s the “Mountain” drums in the back ground (LOUDER!). I’ve been showing this track to alot of my friends, and everyone says that this is their favourite Ivy League track. I totally agree. And for the record, he does not give a shout out to T-Pain on the outro of the track. It’s a shout out to T Pang, which is a friend of him from Stavanger in Norway. After Ivy League’s “Ray Gun”, we have a beat made back in ‘07 on the SP. Nice mellow piano beat made out of a kinda hyped up/famous psych/folk record.. The samples are pitched around and MAD chopped up, so when I listen to the sample again now, I really can’t tell which parts I used for the beat. The beat also has two very different kicks drums in it, which gives it more personality. The bassline is nice & simple, and the fluting keys on the hook is DOPE. We also added some background sounds/noise on it (that was’nt there in ‘07) when we put together our part. Next up is “In Shalahh (Bollyhood)”, one of our many bollywood beats, but I think this one right here — is the hardest. Nice vocal samples, a trigged wierd guitar sound (panned forth and back during the whole song) + a killer bassline and pounding kicks. Check it out. “Untitled ‘09″ was off course done in ‘09, of course on the SP. Kinda wierd beat, with a little magical/wizard type feel to it. I like the bassline a lot, I like the chops, and I like the vocals on the hook. There’s another beat we made out of the same sample featured on SP Shit Volume 4, but it’s pitched and chopped different, and has a whole another vibe to it. This one sounds better thou. The last track on the set is called “Knock Knock” and was also featured on SP Shit 4, so some you might recognize this one. This one is very boom-bap. Chopped jazz guitars, bongos, boombap drums plus a killer bassline. This is the crew’s drunk-freestyle-beat. Always. The project is mastered by Christian Obermayer from Strype Audio.

Aight.. My newest diggintape..This one is kinda different from the ones.. This one is actually avaliable as a hardcopy version splitted into tracks. This one has loads of international music on it, with tracks from India, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Canada, America, Poland, Japan, Sweden, United Kingdom & Israel. All types of music like funk, soul, disco, jazz, fusion, folk, soundtracks, bollywood music, mod, psych, prog & exotica. I don’t have any library on it this time, and reason why is because I’ve bought tons of libraries lately, but I am saving them up for a upcoming library tape. I don’t have any brazilian stuff on this tape either.. Reason why: They good brazilian ones are’nt really just laying around in Oslo.. And I have’nt been outside of Norway since the Portland trip.. By the way.. There’s a couple of leftovers from the Portland tape here aswell. Records I wanted to include in the tape, but did’nt get in cause I had to much music in there already… There’s some originals on this tape aswell. Originals for tracks by Fredfades & Deckdaddy, DJ Premier/Cee-Lo, Madlib/Quasimoto, Alchemist, Damu the Fudgemunk/Y Society, DJ Babu, Evidence/Dilated Peoples, Kankick, RZA/Wu-Tang, Outcast, Three-Six-Mafia, 9th Wonder/Little Brother, Edan, ANT/Felt +++.

This time also avaliable as a hardcopy version. Get at me! Paypal 25 USD to fredfades@gmail.com for a hardcopy version of the mixtape plus worldwide shipping!

So… Hardcopies avliable for sale in a few days..
But for now, here’s the mp3 file:

OSLO SP ENSEMBLE – SP SHIT VOL. 4

October 22nd, 2009 Posted in Beats, Exclusive, Fredfades, Hiphop, Mixes, Private, SP1200 | 3 Comments »

SPSIV400PX

It’s official – Hot damn hoe, here we go again. The newest installment in our SP Shit series. Of course the whole thing is single floppy SP beats. No external samplers was used – as usual. We tried to make this one a little shorter than the other ones, but we’re making too much beats so we had to pack this one aswell. This one has been ready for a while, but I’ve been spending too much time on the cover design. Only reason why it has’nt dropped earlier. This time, we will also do a hardcopy version, splitted in tracks, and of course the sound quality is lots better than this lousy mp3 file. It will be available for sale on my blog if you come back in a week or something.

In the meanwhile, kick back and enjoy the MP3 version here:

So, here we go again.. My first post on the blog since the Ivy League EP. A huge amount of the copies are gone. Hurry up if you want a copy. Recently, I figured out that I have’nt done a proper hiphop mix since october in 08, so I did a new one for you this sunday. Multitracked and shit, with some nice blends etc. I also included some unreleased stuff of myself in here.. The intro plus a Big L remix. But everything else on this mix was done with real vinyl records. No Serato/Microwave was used here. Fuck a microwave, yo. Everything in this mix is possible to get on vinyl. Some of the stuff is pretty rare thou.. Please feel free to post the link/mix around everywhere you want. It’s a free tape and people are supposed to hear it. Please don’t bother sending me emails about where to get this and that stuff. Google your ass off instead. Some of this stuff is limited records I’ve bought when they were just released.

So… Finally, here we go… The long awaited Ivy League EP is here. “The Brains EP”. Vinyl only, limited to 300 copies. It arrived yesterday and I had to drive all over the bay in Oslo to find the fucking warehouse who had them. The EP is a collaboration between The Oslo SP Ensemble (which is Fredfades, Deckdaddy & John Rice) and Ivy League. It is released on my own, newly started label Reppin Outta Control. Most of the people who check my blog might know Deckdaddy & John Rice. You might not know Ivy League thou. He is a super skilled norwegian rapper, rapping in english. We teamed up about a year ago, and here’s the result. A six track long EP on vinyl, with instrumental versions for all the tracks. The quality on the vinyl is superb, and the sound aswell – It’s mastered by Christian @ Strype Studios in Oslo… Thanks Christian. The whole EP is produced on the legendary SP1200, and all raps are recorded between the shelves in my vinyl storage room on a cheap microphone. But it still sounds super crisp, cause we know how to listen to music and how to mix our own shit. By the way.. I also did the design for the EP.

TRACKLIST:
01. Nunchuckz
02. What Up Walt Whitman
03. Street Sharks & Biker Mice
04. Necessities

So, here we go.. This was supposed to be released on a CD.. But seriously, fuck that. I feel like sharing it on my blog… I went to Portland with my friend Lars this summer, and of course we bought shitloads of records.. This mix is made out of 50% of the records I got when I was over there.. I also included a few records I got right before and right after the trip, but almost everything on here is from the Portland trip. Speacial thanks to Lars, Ryan, Colton, Kevin, Brian, DJ Kez & Dundiggy for the great time we had over there.. Thanks to Ryan, Colton & My girlfriend for hooking me up with some of the records. The mix includes jazzy stuff, funky stuff, soulful stuff, library music, brazilian records, turkish records, american records, european records, and other wierd shit. Everything you hear is originals. No reissues. There’s also some blends in the mix. You should be able to hear this..

If you wanna see pictures from the trip, go to this link: Fredfades Portland Pics 09

The mix is build up by chapters/parts:

01. Intro/60’s Rock-chapter.
02. For the Rappers/Breakbeat-chapter.
03. For the Jazzcats.
04. For the Dancers/Groove-chapter.
05. For the LAte Nights/Chillout-chapter.

As usual, I am not putting up any tracklist, but if I ever do the hardcopy version I was thinking of doing, I will include a complete tracklist.

FREDFADES – EASTER PARADE 2009

So, It’s easter.. Im currently changing out my whole kitchen & bathroom, so I moved my studio to my friends house. I was supposed to go out this weekend, but ended up buying records both days, ended up buying beers both days and ended up making beats in his house out of my new records while drinking beers both days. This resulted in a mini-beattape called “Easter Parade 2009″. 13 tracks for all you dudes to bang during the easter. The beats got a little more bass than I usally use to have, this is cause they’re produced on monitors i usally don’t use, and I’ve recorded them through a exciter in another studio which I don’t usally use either.

TRACKLIST:

#01 /// 00:00 The Fredfades Song / Intro (Baby)
#02 /// 02:27 Easter Space ***
#03 /// 03:31 Easter Crime 2009 (Gangsta)
#04 /// 04:53 Blame it on the Easter (Hi Blame) ***
#05 /// 06:15 Jazz Lessons
#06 /// 06:57 Easter Anthem
#07 /// 09:06 Harp Trash
#08 /// 09:25 The Indian Easter
#09 /// 11:55 Blunted Easter Hipsterz
#10 /// 13:12 Barfight (Rowdy)
#11 /// 14:05 Easter Smell
#12 /// 14:39 Doinithard (For my dudes)
#13 /// 17:18 Outro
